5. A Communication Based intervention for Psychosocial Relief and Rehabilitation for Sri Lankan children and their Care environments
Training activities, didactic guides, research and audiovisual productions for psychosocial Rehabilitation, Disaster Preparedness and Chronic Vulnerability.
General objective:
To foster a participatory process by producing printed and electronic educational materials and by organizing performances dealing with psycho-social issues, disaster preparedness and Culture of Social Harmony concepts, to be used in broadcast transmissions, by means of narrowcasting and on stage at schools, in village and camp squares, in family units, groups and at gatherings organized by Government services and development NGOs.
Specific objectives
- To facilitate the psychosocial rehabilitation of the 0 - 11 years old children affected by the tsunami disaster, while fostering human values related to solidarity and cooperation, environmental awareness and a “culture of preparedness” in the educational sector, so that teachers, children and their families become better prepared and acquire coping strategies to face nature or human-made disasters, design basic emergency plans and contribute to ecological measures.
- To strengthen a permanent coordinating, education and training structure, in order to guarantee a permanent flow of information and educational products between schools, local organizations, NGOS and Plan, implementing training teams and a web-site centered on Disaster Preparedness and Culture of Social Harmony.
- To involve children, teachers and parents in a participatory process promoting Children’s Rights and a Culture of Social Harmony and Tolerance, through the production of audiovisual materials and by organizing stage performances in a selected number of schools.
- To improve Quality learning in preschools in Sri Lanka with a focus on reconstruction schools
- To use interactive theatre and other performing arts (TfD) to reach out to
the youngest children.
- To carry out research and evaluation as to impact and effectiveness of these approaches.
Implementing agencies:

Activities: Training, production of manuals, audiovisual materials, web-site & e-learning, organizing interactive theatre and other types of the performing arts, preschool activities.
